Who We Are
Journalism by nature is a competitive industry, where reporters are the combatants up until the deadline. Once the deadline has passed, there is no reason not to share information and methodologies with your colleagues.
The Association for Investigative Journalism in Sweden was modeled in 1990 after a similarly conceived American association; the Investigative Reporters & Editors, (IRE). The previous year, five Swedish members of the IRE successfully held a seminar on digging beneath the surface. One of them – freelance journalist Anders Löwenberg – became the Swedish association’s first president.
Our aim is to encourage reporters to utilize investigative methods for in-depth reporting. This is done by providing training at our office in Stockholm, as well as in-house instruction. Also, a yearly seminar gathers hundreds of reporters for the purpose of sharing their collective experiences, education and knowledge in the field.
Furthermore, we publish Scoop, a quarterly magazine of investigative reporting.
